Norman Barry: Differing Foundations in Libertarian Thought

Norman Barry was an author and professor of political science at the University of Buckingham. He was an expert on the works of Friedrich Hayek and Frederic Bastiat and was also an early exponent of public choice theory. He passed away in October 2008.

In this video from a 1984 Libertarian International conference in London, Barry gives an advanced lecture on the different foundations for libertarian and classical liberal thought. Addressing the utilitarian, rationalistic, and natural rights traditions within libertarianism, Barry cites philosophers from Hume, Smith, and Hayek to Locke and Grotius.
