Einar Du Rietz is one of a small minority of libertarian scholars and activists in Sweden. He currently writes for Collegians for a Constructive Tomorrow, a non-profit organization that promotes free market solutions to environmental issues.
In this video from a 1991 meeting of the International Society for Individual Liberty, Du Rietz talks about the tremendous success a short book he helped write a year earlier was enjoying. The Rise and Fall of the Swedish Welfare State was published in 1990 to widespread acceptance in the European community. The book pieces together Sweden’s history in the post-World War era: Sweden was not not heavily involved in either war, giving it an economic advantage that the book claims was squandered by experimenting with a mixed economy.
